Egypt contracts for 20,000 heads of cattle from various sources for distribution to consumer complexes.

The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade announced the contracting of 20,000 heads of cattle from various sources to be distributed over 1,500 outlets, including consumer complexes, mobile vehicles, and pavilions across the country as part of Eid al-Adha preparations.

Dr. Ali Al-Moselhy, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, affirmed the state’s commitment to providing essential food items that are important to a broad segment of citizens during the holiday, especially various types of meat and frozen poultry, distributing them in markets and sales outlets. He explained that the contracted quantities include 5,000 heads of livestock in the Toshka quarantine and another 5,000 in Safaga, in addition to 10,000 heads that are expected to arrive in the coming days.

Al-Moselhy revealed that the Ministry is supplying about 40 tons of fresh meat daily at the complexes’ outlets, increasing to 120 to 150 tons as the holiday approaches. Al-Moselhy affirmed the continuation of the contracts made by the Ministry to secure the strategic stockpile of essential goods. He noted that meat contracts are sufficient for 11 months.

For his part, Major General Ahmed Hassanein, Chairman of the Holding Company for Food Industries, said, we are taking all necessary measures to secure the strategic stockpile of meat in order to meet the citizens’ needs. He mentioned contracting large quantities of cattle from multiple sources. He clarified that around 10,000 chilled sheep meats will be distributed through outlets affiliated with the Holding Company, in addition to 500 tons of chilled poultry and 500 tons that are expected to arrive soon.

Hassanein also referred to the cooperation between the Holding Company for Food Industries and the South Valley Company for Development, a subsidiary of the Ministry of Public Enterprises, as well as the Egyptian Sudanese Company for Development and Multiple Investments, to ensure the smooth operation of providing meat for the benefit of citizens. He also noted that the Toshka quarantine receives cattle contracted by the Egyptian Sudanese Company on behalf of the Ministry of Supply, with a total of 30,000 heads annually. He clarified that the quarantine always holds a minimum of 5,000 heads from these quantities, ensuring readiness for slaughter and supply throughout the year. He further explained that the Ministry of Supply, represented by the Holding Company, handles the transportation of the slaughtered animals from the abattoirs to the distribution outlets nationwide, in the presence of a representative from the Egyptian Sudanese Company.

Ahmed Kamal, Minister’s Assistant for Supply Projects, Media, and the Ministry’s Spokesperson stated that meat is being distributed through the Holding Company for Food Industries outlets with discounts of up to 30% compared to the market price. He pointed out that the distribution of meat via consumer complexes continues daily, with plans to increase the quantities as Eid al-Adha approaches to meet the citizens’ needs. He clarified that the meat is distributed through refrigerated units provided by the Holding Company for Food Industries to ensure its quality and compliance with health regulations, stressing that all cattle and meat undergo health and veterinary supervision to ensure their safety.
